You could also relocate the license plate by removing the reflector above the plate and below the lic. plate light. Then moving the plate bracket up to the old reflector location and re-drilling the holes for the bracket. This moves the plate up over 2" and further out of harms way during a fall. Here's a pic of before and after from advirider.
