Default REV limiter

Call me stupid but, one of my threads on gearing someone mentioned, remember you have a rev limiter, and your motor can take some abuse!!! I have the carb model I guess. Not sure what you mean by the rev limiter??? Isn't that just a fuel injection thing?? I always go by the sound of my motor and exhaust. You can clearly tell when you're beating on it. O.K., if that's true, when I'm going flat out in 6th on tar or gravel, is that why my motor cuts out every now and then, like every other second I mean. Sounds like it's starving for fuel???? SORRY, just clueless right now!!!!!!!

Our rev limiter is set to 10,500 rpm. Mine seems to cut in somewhere above 10K rpm and I rarely hit 10.5 (per the max rpm on the vapor computer). It's an ignition limiter, not fuel injection models only.

So it's a definite cut off?? Like revving your car in neutral?? Had a buddy that did that to his moms Grand Am. It was clearly a rev limiter. SAME THING??????

Yes, same thing. The ignition limiter cuts off the spark around 10.5K like IDRIDR said.
Most cars cut the fuel and ignition at rev limit. It is the same for "Basic Traction Control" the computer cuts the power when it senses a wheel slipping.

There is also a fix on here somewhere for a high rpm miss that involves adding an extra ground on the regulator I think. Don't know much more as I didn't need it.

Are you sure? I've revved mine past 10,500 many times and never seen any indication of a rev limiter.

I am sure about my bike and 10.5K rev limit. The vapor computer makes it more obvious than stock gage. Exact numeric readout and records max rpm (also speed, temp). I've ran against the limiter on long climbs in low gear.

linkin5....glad you brought up that Hi-rev miss. I wanna say it acts like its lean?? Only happens above 75mph, up there around 10,000. As far as the rev limiter, I'd think I'd know right away when its cutting. It doesnt always do it either. It still has great power, and stays on top at 85mph!!! You'd almost have to ride it and hear it from the pipe, and feel it for yourself. Tiny little super fast hickup, not very constant though. That's the best I can explain it Maybe someone else might have an idea on this, or experienced it. I have the biggest main jet from dynojet in the carb. The porcelain on my plug is always bone white. I richened it up to 3 1/4 out, too much ran like crap, it loves 3!!!! Don't think I'm lean, just SOMETGHING way on top of the band. Boy does she haul though!! This thing just goes!! Loves it wide open!!!!

That's a sweet little ground mod!!! Definitely going to just T into that wire, run a couple inch chunk with a decent ring connector, gonna rough up the surface too. After seeing that post, that's exactly what mine does!! Not enough to be a huge problem, but JUST enough to get your mind thinking about why it's doing it. I also bypassed the kick stand switch. It's 20 below zero outside!!! I won't get to start this beast up and ride for another 3 months. Time will tell. This should work though!!

In the midst of all the excitement drag racing a Toyota Yaris, I neglected to check the tachometer, but without a doubt I definitely hit a rev limiter!
