removing toolbag for small top case?

Anybody did that? I mean I don't like that silly idea of that toolbag sitting on the fender asking for trouble. Was thinking about replacing it with the smallest possible top case and bolt it in, doable?

Yes. Remove the 4 bolts holding the toolbag on. Buy a Pelican 1150 (or similar) for under $40. Somewhat compromise the waterproof feature of the Pelican by drilling 2 holes in the bottom (to match the mount holes of the stock toolbag), then negate some of that compromise with o-rings on the bolts going through the pelican.

It works well, holds more than the stock toolbag. Can be locked. Is (mostly) waterproof. Is tough and strong. Yes, you can get it in black...

In the pic, you also see a seatbelt - used as a pull strap - I also have one on the front forks (same setup on my other/2009 KLX250) - very helpful for moving the bike around (rear strap) or helping to pull the bike up a nasty steep section (front strap). Also, I have a rope wrapped around the Pelican - it's come in handy once when the chain came off and wrapped around the front sprocket on my 2009 when my son was riding it, we used the rope to tow the bike home. Might have been handy when the clutch went out/burned up in the middle of the woods on the 2009. Might have been handy when my buddy's WR250R's fuel pump failed out in the middle of the woods, in the dark, with steep uphill track the only way back...

I removed mine and put a cycleracks rack on. strapped the tool bag back on the side of the rack.

I put a Pelican case on mine with the toolkit mounted below it. This way I can remove the case as needed and always have my tools in place.

E-nigma went with a nomadic rack and givi top case. I went with a nearly identical kappa top case with no rack. The case comes with a base that it snaps on to. I bolted the base to the bike using the tool kit bolts. real fast and easy to install.

I ran a pelican 1170 for a long time directly in place of the OEM bag. Worked very well, roughly double the capacity of the bag. Did hit me in the ass occasionally while off road riding.
