Default Reducing Exhaust Noise

Hey guys! Its been awhile.. I was wondering if there's anyway to reduce the exhause noise of my bike to the noise level of a Stock exhaust of the KLX? I was thinking of fabricating a quiet insert.

Is there anything wrong with making the exhaust hole smaller with a insert?
Please give me some idea's on how to drastically reduce the noise of my bike

Thanks alot,
Jamie

Yes, put the stock exhaust back on

Fabbing a quiet insert will work to some degree, but to make it as quiet as stock, you will need to choke it up pretty bad. You won't hurt it by experimenting with different designs, so have a look at what's available (inserts), and fab your own up.

IMO, I think there is an opportunity for a manufacturer to take high performance automotive muffler technology, and use it on bikes. What we have now are just glass packs. Something like a dynomax super turbo would make the KLX sound awesome, and quiet.

Hey, ZW, I think you're right. Gotta be some wave/wave cancelation technology that's pretty simple. Also, what are the half-circles of what looks like fuel-line tubing? Any idea their purpose?

Hey thanks for the reply, the problem is I bought my bike with the RSV Exhaust and I didn't get the stock exhaust with it. What i'm trying to ask is whether making the exhaust hole size smaller will hurt the engine? I'm trying to just make it as simple as possible.

Get a used stock exhaust from Ebay.
If you want quiet that's by far your best option.

You are going to make the bike run like a total POS, if not damage the engine, by trying to choke a loud "muffler" way before it got to the sound level of the original muffler.

All the available "quiet inserts" make a really minimal difference. Like taking you ten feet closer to your destination when there's a mile to go.
Yeah, it got tiny bit quieter but nowhere even near as quiet as stock.

Oh okay.. My friend said that his friend has a stock exhaust for $65.. I will take a look at that and maybe buy it then.. I will need to make my bike a bit leaner right? Although its gonna be the stock exhaust, I have a open air box with a twin air filter.

I would try it first. Switch pipes, put in a new spark plug and run it a hunnert miles or so. Pull the plug and look at it.

Oh right okay! Does the stock exhaust make the bike really really low on power?

no. keep your jetting if it has been modified. If you opened up your air box you need to rejet, even if you didn't open up you need to rejet because it is too lean right out of the crate.
