Reduced front sprocket nut torque

My front sprocket was starting to "hook", I have a new ready to go on. Chain shows no sign of stretch per procedure in the service manual, rear sprocket still fine too. Although the nut has been off before (6 years ago) it was a bear to get off. Has anyone reduced the torque on that nut and how did it turn out? Spec is 90 ft/lbs; I'm thinking of trying 75 ft/lbs with a dab of blue Loctite.

Got an air impact gun? Mine pulled a CS nut off the likely original CS with around 9k miles on it and slightly hooked. What I want is a nut retainer that does not rely on plastic deformation, as in the OEM washer. Once my air pressure comes up I leave trans in N, hold the tire, and the gun does the rest. No fuss at all.

I recently replaced the CS sprocket on my '06 and I'm sure the nut had not been off since it left the factory. My 1/2" impact wouldn't budge it, so I rented a 3/4" impact. Nothing. I ended up cutting it off. I installed the new one at 80 lbs without threadlocker. But I also painted a mark across the shaft & nut sos I could tell at a glance if it loosened. That was a few months ago. No movement so far. 75 lbs wi threadlocker should hold it.

I use a low buck Hausfield Campbell or whatever 1/2" impact I got with my compressor from Lowes, to remove the nut, I was lucky. Then torque it on when reinstalled. I didn't do it, but maybe some anti-seize could help with removal. Drop the torque level 10% if done (a guess).

I would think if you use the lock ring or drill the nut and safety wire it all would be good dropping the torque. After all, it can't move with either of those two in place.

I saw where they drill two small holes in the sprocket just below the teeth for the wire. I would guess they put a piece in before installing the sprocket. The drilling of the nut may be a pain unless one has a darn good drill bit.

When i had trouble the first time i took mine off , i put anti seize on it when i replaced it and have never had trouble since. Been off and on quite a few times since.

Did you try heating the nut with a torch before cutting it off? Penetrating oil? etc. Just wondering. I put mine back on with some copper loaded anti-slease so I expect no problems later.

I shore did. Soaked it with PB Blaster for a week before beginning, & heated it with a torch when I was trying a 38" breaker & then the 1/2" impact. To no effect. Although, I didn't heat it before hitting it wi the 3/4" impact. I figgered if a gun that generates 800 ft/lbs wouldn't budge it, it was time for the nuclear option.

Won't happen a second time, will it?
