Rear sprocket for offroad only
If running a 14 T front a 45 would be fairly good, but a 47 might work better in tight tough stuff, sand, and mud.
I am a proponent of running a larger set of sprockets to cut down on wear due to less chain wrap around sprockets and load spread over more teeth on sprockets. Plus if you run the 14 if you should ever need lower gearing for the rare occasion you can always drop to the 13 and get lower. Think about it, it makes sense.

I'm running a 13/49 and mainly ride off road. I love the low gearing for the tight single track I usually ride.
According to KLX250 1994-1996 service manual - KLX250-E (very similar to KLX250 USA model 2006) gearing is 14-42, for more sporty KLX250-D gearing is 14-50.
Interesting that for KLX250-D max horsepower indicated - 32hp.
I have 14/48 on my BB351, very good for offroad, satisfactory for highway.

Yep, if I'm not mistaken the old dirt only KLX300 came stock with 14X50 sprockets. Some run as big as 51 or 52 teeth in the rear. I am just about like KLX678, I run a 48 in the rear and have the 13, 14, and 15 tooth front. I can swap between the three while using the same chain. Next time I may go with a 47 as it would be a teeny bit closer to stock 14X42 when running the 15 front. Stock 14X42 is 3.00 gear inches. the 15X47 is 3.13 gear inches, just slightly lower. A 15X45 would be 3.00 gear inches identical to stock 14X42 but 13X45 may not be as low as you would like for the trail. As mentioned, bigger sprockets front and rear is easier on the chain and sprockets. Yep, I've thoroughly confused myself now hehe.
just say'in!
