Question Rear shock compression???

I wanted to stiffen up my bike a little so I started messing with the compression clicker and I noticed that there is barley a noticeable if any difference between all the way soft and and all the way hard. Then I started realizing compared to all other bikes I have ridden where there is a point mid compression stroke where you can feel it stiffen up my bike does not do this at all. I'm wondering if its just the design of the klx susp or maybe there is something wrong with my shock???

Any suggestions?

novasteve,
I just went into the shop to check mine (an '06 model) and I could NOT feel any difference between fully seated and fully open (CCW). Maybe this is something you can only feel while riding? And we are talking about the adjustment clicker at the TOP of the shock, right? Also, I checked the compression rebound clicker and it makes a huge difference.

Exactly what I'm talking about but I went 3 clicks either up or down through the whole range then went for a ride and there is no difference while riding either, and yes my rebound clicker makes a huge difference also I mean completely seated the rear of the bike feels almost solid.

novasteve,
When I adjusted the rebound damper to the hardest position (fully CW) and bounced the bike, it took about a minute for the suspension to rebound. So I know that it is working correctly. I wonder why we don't seem to see the same kind of response from the compression damper? Anyone have an answer?

On my bike there are the 2 spring tensioner nuts that screw down to make the spring stiffer.

On top of the main shock cylinder there is an accumulator or resevoir that has an adjustement screw with a detent "clicker".

Are these the only 2 rear shock adjustements?

When you talk about a "rebound dampener" I assume you mean the accumulator or resevoir along side the main tube.

What exactly does that adjustment do? Stiffen the shoch or slow down the rebound of the compressed shock.

To stiffen the rear end what needs to be done?

The "clicker" on the top located on the reservoir is for your compression adjustment. There is another "clicker" located way down on bottom end of rear shock. This one is for the rebound adjustment. if you look between the bottom part of chain and chain guide/swingarm you should see it. You may have to clean some gook from the area to see it. Mine is usually covered with mud/chain lube. I havent played around with these much yet. getting used to feel of bike before i make adjustments. Might be more noticeable if you are taking jumps. I dunno for sure.

Tell me about it. All I have is dial-up. Sometimes I push it to the maximum by loading 2 web pages at a time and bad things start happenin'!! Just like when my old honda XL80 started cutiting out on a cylinder

Hey guys, how do you know how to setup the rebound and compression on the suspension? I have been googling alot, i am riding on fairly rough city streets/highway/offroad etc. I am around 150lbs and the stock settings seem decent enough, but the nosedive when braking is a little extreme even when i shift my weight rearward? How do i adjust it without making it TOO stiff for offroad settings?
Its a 09 klx250sf

Replace the front cartridge with something that flows enough oil at high speed compression. Otherwise, you're always dealing with a deck that is stacked against you....
