rear light bulb
the rear bulb is a 12 V 5/21 W...anybody know the part number for a sylvania rear bulb or something i can pick up on my way home?....got caught in some heavy rain yesterday....not sure if it had anything to do with it, but noticed my rear light is out (brake light works)...i didn't want to have to take the bulb out at the autopart store to find out what i had...

1157 usually. The 1176 gets you a brighter tail light filament. Some brands of bulbs have the wattage of the filaments on the base in very fine print. Sometimes there is a long life option to be found, good for rougher service applications.
Reading my 2009 manual I discovered that there is quite a bit of disassembly required to get to the rear bulb.

Two small Phillips screws, and the lens cover pops right off. You have to wiggle the top loose a little bit... it's got a little catch on it.

two black screws below the light (above the license plate)...the red lense comes off (gently pull off because there is a rubber seal)...push and turn the bulb out with a clean cloth....very easy....
how long are these bulbs suppose to last...i swear...stock bulb lasted for about 5,000 miles....2nd bulb lasted about 2,000 miles....3rd bulb lasted me 2,000 miles (it was storming rain and my moto just sat in the rain uncovered yesterday, but it was also the same brand of bulb that came 2 in a pack the last time i bought the bulb)

i saw some led bulbs at o reilly, but none were the 1157 i needed...picked up the regular bulbs for now...thanks..o'klx...replaced and works fine...

oops..and, i had the wrong bulbs...7528 which replaces 17916...no idea what that is, but it fit fine and worked for exactly 2,000 miles each on the klx250....never trust a woman at an auto part store!..haha...i took the klx250 stock bulb and she grab'd the 7528 bulb and told me "it looks the same, so it should work"

Did some reading on those LED replacements and decided to stick with normal ones. A lot of reviews mentioned that the LED ones fall apart from vibraton. OK for street but not for dual sport.
