Rear Axle Nut - how often to change?
Hi guys I am new here.
I have a 2015 KLX250S and took off the wheels so that a tyre shop can replace the tyres.
In the service manual it says when I put the rear wheel back on to REPLACE the rear axle nut. I imagine I need to order one from the dealer - but interested if you guys do that and if it is really needed?
Thank you

Never replaced one in my lifetime. No way you're going to strip the threads or wear them out adjusting the chain or taking off the rear wheel a few times a year.
I don't remember if the 250 uses a castle nut or not. My KLX650 has a castle nut and drilled axle, and I use a hair pin cotter pin in it. It won't fall off.

The Klx uses a locking nut. Axle is drilled but it only stops you from losing the nut. Just torque it to 81ftlbs and your good. I have had mine off a ton of times and has never been a issue.
Interesting. I've never noticed that in any manual...but I guess I didn't look for axle nut replacement schedules. Working in a shop part time and owning tons of bikes...never replaced an axle nut due to a schedule. My '06 KLX with about 35K has the original nut. Never have seen it loosen.
This sounds like some kind of CYA lawyer BS.

You know those annoying lawyer ads that flood the airwaves during every commercial? I can see a new one.

Harbor Freight has torque wrenches on sale right now for $9.99. I couldn't believe I got my two for $19.99, who'd a thunk I paid twice as much. Dewey and Cheatem are OK but not sure about that Howe fella. My '14 doesn't have a castle nut but does have a hole in axle for a cotter pin, which I torqued down to 23 crispers per hectacre, is that correct?
