Default Question about cylinder head compatability

I have read about how klx250s heads can be used on klx300's. So I know that there are some swaps available. My question is what is different from the 06-08 and 09-current klx250s heads. I have a 2010 and have a head thats screwed. I impulse bought a 07 head on ebay thinking that it was the same head. But now see on bike bandit that the part numbers of the different years are not the same. However, the part numbers for the valves, guides, seals, bolts, ect. are all the same. Did I just screw up and by a head that isn't compatable? I sure hope not, they sure are expensive. Thanks in advance for any help.

the part no.s can change even for exactly the same thing just because of a colour change.... have you compared the 2 heads next to each other??

No the head is still on its way. Best I can tell from bike bandit's website on the illustrated parts breakdown is that the only difference is a plug is installed in the center of the 2010 model head that doesn't exist on the 2007 head. But I will report back when I know for sure. I am still hoping to hear about some experiences others have had. Thanks for your input.

I have a 2007 300 head on my 2009. It all works just fine. Only difference is there is no air reed valve on the 300 head, but i had the smog crap removed anyway.

That core plug is threaded into the cooling jacket. Sometimes, they machine the hole for a freeze plug but I believe that it's really there to assist in the casting process when they make the head. The heads for any of the 250/300 engines should work but as stated above, the 300's don't have provisions for air injection.

FYI guys,
I bought a head from a 2009 (Carb bike from the states which i sent to Bill Blue to have ported and bigger valves fitted. I have now come to fit my BB kit and head. Alas the head is slightly different. The Rubber mount for the EFI throttle body on my 2010 does not fit the 2009 carb head. The centres of the bolts on my head are 75mm where as the carb head is 63mm. Any suggestions how to get past this problem???

My 2010 EFI (Asia model ) Also has a Temp sensor on the head. On the ported head there is a blanking plug. But the thread size is different. I could drill and tap it out to the right thread. But the Temp probe would sit 10 mm more into the water jacket. I am concerned that it may impede water flow and cause a hot spot. Anyone have any experience with this ?

Thanks

George
