Ok it was Saturday morning and what are we going to do? Garland had planned on riding and since he already had permission, and my wife is gonna be gone for another two weeks, I couldn't think of any reason not to go explore areas that I have never been to, and trust me there are hundreds of place all within 50 miles that I have never been to.

So yesterday was 50 miles South, and so today it was all about North. Headed up some forest service roads 25 miles North. took a few shots at some camping spots.

So the first summer and last year I went up to an old forest service lookout at the snyder work camp. It was used more in the 50's and 60's but now sits a lot quieter than it was in the past. Today the clouds and fog really sat low. As we headed up the road we cam upon some vehicles coming down from a wedding at the peak. 3200 feet and you couldn't see as far as you could throw a rock.

This was heading up the 9 mile 3000 ft grade. It was eerie but really cool.

Anyway we got to the peak which usually looks like this picture I took 2 years ago.

But today it looked like this, kind of cold for a wedding.

Ok keeping in mind that this was 40 miles from town, up a mountain 9 miles to an elevation of 3200 ft and who do I run into? A lady that works for the PUD here in Forks, and it turns out its her son that is getting married, I joked and said "hey I should go take a picture" and she said absolutely! Go do it. So I did.
Attachment 24784

I was going to ask if I could get a picture in all my gear with the bride and groom, but I re-thought it. lol

The road up was muddy, and greasy, and so I had to take a picture for proof.
Attachment 24785

Anyway we headed down the back side of the mountain, and I have never been that way, but Garland said he thought he knew where it came out.

Gotta take time to stop and smell the roses.....well you get the idea.

some of the timber up here is old growth on forest service land, pretty cool to see.

Here are some old snags.
Attachment 24789

Garland said if he was not carrying all that gear we would have gone this way. I pretended to be disappointed.

More to come

Another weird coinsidence was running into these guys cutting firewood, friends of mine.

Ok Garland knows these areas pretty well, and he showed me this awesome camping area next to a bridge and a creek. I put a way point because I think this is now my new favorite spot of all time. I gotta bring my family up here.........I miss my family............:(

Then since we picked up a couple of foot long subs from Subway we decided that since it was 4:30 and I hadn't eaten anything all day, it was now time. And Garland wanted to try out the stove he's taking on the Canada trip. Mmmmmmmm Stew.

Whole that was cooking I decided to take some more pics. This one camping spot was so cool I actually added a way point so I can find it again. Very cool.

cool river rock colors.

I'm washing off my boots (I know always cleaning) and I hear Garland calling me for lunch.
Attachment 24767

Mmmmmmmmm good food, good company, great surroundings, it just doesn't get better than this, but yes it does, after we eat we decide to shoot the guns, his 9 shot revolver 22 was a kick to shoot, and then I pulled out the 44 cannon and all you had to do was to get within 2 ft of the floating wood chunks we threw in the water and the splash of the hollowpoints would knock the wood out of the water and up the bank. Awesome.

On the way back home we found some classic power lines to ride, what a great way to end the day. We hit highway 101 at Bear Creek road and he went left back home to Port Angeles 40 miles and I headed back home to Forks 25 miles. I'm beat, I got home and I finished the day with another 80 miles. So that is 190 for the weekend. Getting ready for the week long Canada trip is a lot of work, but hopefully it will pay off.

Great pics, looks like a good time. Is that a Kenda K270 tire you have on the bike? I'm still in a tire quagmire and am trying to figure out what to settle on. What happened to all your gear from your early pics?

From the look of your 'saddle bags' you could probably store plenty of fuel and water in them and make your can carryers obsolete.

The saddlebags are on Garlands bike, he stayed the night and then we decided to go for another ride and since he was going to head home and didn't want to come all the way back to get his stuff, he left it on his bike. I am thinking about getting some saddlebags like his, and then the gas can would have some protection and be out of sight. Oh and my tire is a Kenda K-270 and as mentioned in my other post, the load range is 803 lbs! I didn'[t realize it when I bought it but its nice to know. ;)

Woke up this morning thinking something was not right. Oh sure I had a good 110 mile ride on Friday and another 80 on Saturday, but the weekend was not over. I sat there in bed, puppies playing, the sun was shining..........WHAT THE!!! The sun was shining? Then it hit me, the weekend was not over just yet.

I shot up out of bed and remembered that my bike and garage were a mess from the rides, and so I proceeded to clean the garage, and then took the jack stand out in the yard and put the bike up for a good clean (as if there is any other kind) :) After that I remembered that I was supposed to get a hold of a friend of mine that lives 11 miles out of town to see if I could solder a fuse onto his circuit board.

I called him but he and his kid went riding somewhere but said that I could come out and take a look and told me where the key was. I threw in my cordless soldering iron and a few tools and took off. When I got there it soon became apparent that my wimpy soldering iron was not going to do the trick, so I took out the board and ran back to town and up to work, and in order to get to the post I had to take out a removable fuse (FNR something or rather) commercial type, then I got the hard soldered fuse put on and headed out to the hot tub. I got there and realized that I left the fuse on the bench at work. Grrrrrr But oh well it was 70 and completely blue sky, one of those days where you just felt like you could do anything.;)

So I headed back out, installed the fuse and the tub started to purr like a kitten. So I head back home and ride through town, you know the long way home (an extra mile) and I came upon this, Ok I suppose one could surmise that these pictures could just be put into the random picture thread. But somehow with all of my adventures this weekend, and the miles racked up, I just wanted to capture a cool end to a great weekend. I ended today with three trips to the hot tub and back, and a little cruising at 80 miles again. Oh and I must have passed 50 bikes on those three trips and everyone waved, I even had 4 guys come up behind me while I was cruising at 60 and nestle right in with me for a minute and then they waved and off they went. It was like for a second I was part of a gang, but without the guns and drugs, oh wait I did have my gun with me.:D

Anyway, I thought these would finish my weekend pictorial and ride reporting nicely. Its a 1963 Caddy that I thought was cool. No its not really a looker, a dent here a cracked window there, a roof that looked like wolverine tried to get into, but there was something about it.......

I almost hit the 300 mark for the weekend, and for a town of 3100 that is only a mile long that's not too bad. Peace.;)

klrjr 08-04-2008 04:47 AM

Great pics and report. You really have some cool places to ride out there. Did the sign on the red caddy say how much they were asking for it? Don't see many like that anymore!!

deej 08-04-2008 05:00 AM

That was the weird part, 10,000 miles on a rebuilt motor, new transmission, new this, new that but no price. :(

JRock420 08-04-2008 02:54 PM

Fourty2ri 08-04-2008 04:53 PM
