Pip'n and jettin'

I want to put a Hmf slip-on, on my klx 250. I'm no mechanic but I'm not an idiot either. I would like to do my own jetting but really have no idea how. I have never attempted it either. Can some one out there explain how this is done in easy to understand terms?

i Really do not know how to explain the jetting thing. it is just test and try but if someone lives at your similar alt. then it is covered. because then they know what works. But for the exhaust you take the right plate off. then you make the mid bolt on the exhaust and make it loose. then you take the three bolts off the can beside the seat. then just twist the can out of the exhaust. then just do the same just put everything back on the new can.

The below link will tell you everything you need to know. It has pictures and step-by-step instructions. It was written by the same guy who developed the HMF slip-on for the KLX250S, so it's the best guide available for what you need. Read theentire thread....it's very thorough.

IT'S MY BIKE!!!!! We took 3 bikes down to HMF and had them do the pipes for us and they used my bike as the prototype. I am sure thatI am more excited than anyone else about this. The pipes made a huge difference. Made the bike a lot more fun to ride and I love the sound. Thanks Chris at HMF for hooking us up.

Pulling the carb is a pain in the arse.

Pay good attention to how things came (fell) apart...

I have never done carb jetting either, but I just did mine yesterday and it wasnt bad at all. Takes awhile to get everything off but the jetting itself takes like 20min tops.

I also bought one of these so it would be easy to make adjustments.

part #FS-3

Part numbers I ordered thru www.bikebandit.com
[*]16009-1912--------Needle-Jet,N1TC[*]92143-1667--------Needle Collar (required for N1TC needle)[*]92037-1401--------Clamp, Needle Jet (Clip, required for N1TC needle)[*]92063-1074--------#128 Main Jet[*]92064-1108--------#40 Pilot Jet
[*]14073-1577--------Duct, Inlet (KDX200 Snorkel)

You need toput your location in a signature so we know where your from and your elevation. For instance I used a #128 but you may need something else due to altitude, exhaust etc.

JB1 I was about to ask how it went. I just ordered all the same parts you did. Is that everything you needed or do I need something else? Why did we get the KDX snorkel? On the HMF site he shimmed the the needle with a .032 shim. Did you do this or is it necessary? He said it was to richen the AFR.

I got the snorkel because i run in a lot of water.. and dont want an open air box lid.... but alot are running with out the airbox lid. I think he shimmed the stock needle because maybe he didnt know that the N1TC needle fit our carbs.... i could be wrong though.

No I didnt follow the HMF directions. I went with the N1TC needle because its adjustable with the clip on the second notch from the top.

I also replaced the factory air filter with a UNI. I added the snorkle to allow mine to breathe better without having the airbox lid removed and getting all that noise/dust/dirt inside. Its easy to install just pull out the stock and insert the new snorkle.

I bought a few more things like a small UNI filter for my nobrakes crankcase vent mod, the "Y" fitting and tubing for the carb vent and I went to the HELP section of the ap store and got some assortment packs of rubber cap/plugs to cap off the airbox inlets/carb inlet and front engine outlet where the smog stuff and crankcase used to connect (sealed them with hi-temp gasket sealant too). I also replaced the phillips screws on the float bowl with M4 socket head cap screws and lock washers.

I also picked up a pack of these moose hose clamps to replace the factory crap clamps. I should have gotten 2 packs because I ran out. I replaced them all because even the vent lines off the bottom of the tank just fell off as I held the tank taking it to the workbench.

Attachment 32594

way better than the factory crap.

Attachment 32595

You dont have to do all the other stuff I did, but I read all the how toos and mods and combined them to one so I could do everything at once while I had it all apart. The small stuff I mentioned nickled-dimed me to death...lol
