Default Picking up a set of used rims. What do I need to know?

I'm trying to understand rim sizes and what will work on the klx. I want to buy a set of used rims locally and put together a street set of wheels. Most ads just say "18 and 21 inch used spoked rims for sale". There's gotta be more to it than that, right? Or is it really that simple?

EDIT

1.60 x 21
2.15 x 18

Got it...

The wheel hub will be the biggest problem I see. Need to find out what alternatives are out there

Been looking into it more. Would a KDX220 set of rims and wheel hub fit? They don't share the same part numbers, but are damn close. And cheap to come by used.

Wishful thinking...

Your wish has been granted. maybe.... Some KDX wheels fit some KLX's. Looks like you are are in Taiwan. I have a 2007 and this is a thread i started while researching compatible wheels. Don't have time to write more now, but should get you started.

Good luck ,,, ,Dan

Thank you. That's reassuring Dan888. I found your thread

https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...-wheels-36873/

I would assume the wheel assembly of a 2007 klx is the same as a 2014? Second half of many of their part #'s are different. But so are the KDX's...and that fit yours. So I may take a shot at a set. Can't find them here, but overseas shipping isn't too bad if I can pick them up cheap enough.

Will be nice to save my new knobbies some wear and tear.

No, I don't think so. The front hub has to be for an electronic speedo and I believe they are different. I think the rear hubs are the same. You need a 2009-2014 front hub.

If anyone knows different, please step up and correct me. I'd love to be wrong. Then I could get a set of KLX300/KDX200 wheels to put knobbies on them.

Sorry thought put a link to that thread in my first reply. Glad you found it. In my case I had already converted to a Vapor spedo so I only had to add a magnet to the front wheel for a pickup. I rode for quite a while with no spedo before the Vapor. The wheel compatibility, will depend partly on what year bike you have and what market it was sold in.

With a Vapor set up that opens up all the KX wheels for use. They don't have any speedo drive machining on the hub, but are still a fit from what I've seen.
