Oooo... a new toy... Can I use it?!

So my parents are off on their big European working holiday next week.

As a farewell present, and a birthday present for my dad for September, I bought them the largest European map I've ever seen. Covered nearly an entire wall of my small flat, and had such detail, I don't think any other map of europe would ever be required.

So just before I gave them this incredible gift, my aunt and uncle show up, bearing gifts of their own. Namely a brand new Tomtom GPS. With all European maps preloaded.

Doh.

On the bright side, my dad has left me with his older GPS (new last year), a Tomtom One.

So here's the question:

Can I mount this onto my bike? (along with some waterproofing for it.) Plugs into a car cig lighter for power.

Also only has road maps in it. Can't really use it for offroading.

See here https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...lt+hook&page=4 for the 12 volt hook up.:D

ah ha. That didn't show up on my search. New term for the day = hook up.

As for mounting, I suggest a sandwich box of suitable size (there are plenty of cheap ones with a waterproof seal) and a"gland" fitting (available from electronics stores) to pass the power cable through so it remains water tight. Can't help at the moment with the issues of "touch screen." Keeping it dry is the #1 priority IMO.

This gives you an idea.

Punch me if this is stupid, but what about a high quality resealable bag?

Only issue is working out a way to feed the cable in...

Sandwich box and gland is less than $5 where I live!

WestOzKLX 07-24-2009 02:11 AM

Which version of the Tm Tom One do you have, 1, 2 or 3?

Sistema "sandwich" boxes are available at Pak n Save, Woolworths, foodtown, Bunnings. Take your pick. This page gives dimensions for the whole range so you can get a snug fitting box (measured with cable and gland fitting.)

oh, they're widely available here too, just thinking a bag would allow me to use the touch screen...

and no idea on the model, will check tonight.

Look into a Ram Aqua mount. They're cheap, waterproof, and you can use the touchscreen through it.. I use it with my phone that has touchscreen/GPS.
