Not another Carb Posting...
Howdy to all...just joined the forums. I picked up my klx this summer, and have been enjoying ever since. About 2 weeks ago I finally went down the "free mods" road. The basic setup - drilled stock pipe, drilled air box lid / crankcase breather, removed smog, added N1TC needle / 125 jet, and set air fuel screw to 2.5 turns. Have a #40 main, and 128 needle jets as well, but neither are likely to go in before a true high flow exhaust is installed. About to put 13 tooth on.
I have to thank many many of you for your postings. Truly priceless knowledge, particularly for someone like myself that are on their first bike.
One thing I haven't seen yet - a posting of various peoples carb setups, with their location information. Could prove priceless for any of us that travel regionally with our bikes, and may need to rejet to get things to work "just so".
I live in Salt Lake City, around 4500 - 5000 ft. I commute commonly over a range, which takes me up to around 7500 - 8000ft. I have not made it up there since the mods, however. Snow gets in the way. Can't wait to see how the bike makes it up the canyon now though. I did check my plug the other day, and after riding around town a bit, it had a very light black carbon like deposit on it. My understanding is I'm a little rich, but the bike is running great at all RPMs. Not sure how well it will run when I go up in elevation. What to do? Maybe bump the needle up a position???
Anyway, thought it might be a nice reference for all if people posted their local altitude, bike setup, and "what not". Running at sea level vs. high passes in the rockies and whever else in between can certainly call for changes. Might be nice to have some solid starting points posted online.
Just a thought...cheers to all.

Hey UTRoss: "Welcome to the Hotel Kawi-fornia"!!! *
Glad to see that you spent your Summer riding your bike, rather than hanging out at some "cyber street corner" posting messages all the time. But now that Summer is gone, I'm glad you finally made it here ... you can now catch up on all your posting!
And I see that you've started modding your bike. Well, you're in the right place, but be warned that we're basically a bunch of "Mod-aholics". (Some of us have other interests as well, but you'll find all that out in good time ... right Deej?
) Whatever you want to get into, someone here will probably have some advice for you, or at least an opinion and probably a few good questions to add to your list!!!
Anyway, I've added your configuration and performance information to the spreadsheet. (Thanks jsac for pointing him to the thread!) So, I guess that's all there is to initiation ... no pledges, no hazing, we don't even have a secret handshake!!!
Post soon / post often!
Mike

UTRoss,
Welcome to our little world.
Utah? Nice state. Been there - Salt Lake City that it!
Utah is a place that is checked off for my "Ride the Western States" tour that once my retirement checks start to flow, I will start to go on! I'm looking to see Moab, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, etc.
There is just so much natural beauty out there in your state. I can see where you will be riding that KLX to many, many places.
One of the basic reasons Kawasaki chose the CVK carb is just for the situation you pose - varying altitiudes. Since the carb will only feed the amount of air the engine needs, it is one of the carbs that will work very well in many different altitudes.
Even though I live at 75 feet above sea level, I'll bet my carb will function just fine out there.
Matter of fact, a little bit "fat" (rich) will never burn a piston!
Glad we were able to help.

You are right, but I suspect you know that already. Mav's got things 180 out for some reason. Higher altitude, less dense air, same fuel jetting=richer mixture.

I always thought the higher the alttitude the richer it ran.
