New Snorkel needed.

Hi,

Running a BB351 kit and Mikuni TM33-34 pumper carb, FMF rear can. Main jet is 140 i believe, i'm also running with the air box lid removed.

HOWEVER !!! I seem to be going in trails that have pretty deep water these days, i really should get myself a snorkel back in place, before i end up hydrolocked in the middle of the everglades. Remind me, its the KDX220, i need if i'm not mistaken, given the upgrades? i had to remove the stock as it was flat spotting all over the rev range, with it on. I do have a 137.5 main jet if need be. if i need adjust the main for the reintroduction of a snorkel. My understanding is that the stock snorkel was too restrictive, hence its removal to get the bike running nicely.

I just want that little extra protection, for the trails that end up being deeper than they look.

Thanks in advance.

Backfire Screen Removal Scroll down, you'll find the part number here. It is the KDX220 snorkel. I run this with a 351/TM36

This web page is maintained by forum member DPippin. I've used it for years as a quick reference when I don't want to run a cumbersome search of the forum.

I think I have Pippin's work in the Cheap mods link on my signature.

The KDX snorkel is virtually the same area as the intake tube to the carburetor. Should help a bit.

Jetting for the KDX snorkel should be the same as standard DynoJet stage 2. While it is going to restrict airflow more than leaving the snorkel off (as per stage 2 instructions) it probably wouldn't restrict it enough to cause issues.

KDX 200/220 same snorkel.

you can also shorten the kdx snorkle inside the airbox, not sure if it'll flow any more but not a bad idea if it's rubbing the filter

The reason for the length down in is to get any water that might get in to fall below the filter. May as well pull it out if cutting it.

and/or..... snorkle extends into the box as part of of it's noise emissions abatement. Most street bike have the same design. Like a tuned speaker box they even try to make the lid fit tight with a seal.

They did the same set up on their off roaders, but no doubt noise might be part of the reason for the stock tiny one. Even my old 73 TM125 had a snorkel to try to keep water out. Of course we ok them off.

It's funny some of the old bikes were provisioned with a snorkle and a exhaust tip that were removable, as they knew owners would. They were even jetted for them removed. Many owners made the mistake of jumping way up on the jetting only to be pig rich afterward.
