I'll be at 5000 miles tomorrow. Over the last 2 weeks I've started noticing more chain noise coming from the engine, especially when the engine is cold and warming up. Is this a sign I need to tighten the cam chain?

Next, oil is seeping out of somewhere on the right side of the engine case. Kind of seems like its coming from the oil filler hole. Each day it seems to get worse. Maybe filler plug needs a new gasket?

 

The first thing probably has to do with the oil being cold and not up on the cams yet, which leads to some excess racket. I'd suggest only using the choke to get it started and idling on its own, if you leave it choked, the motor is revving pretty strong with no oil lubricating the cylinder head stuff. Once the motor has been running a bit, then start revving on it or holding some throttle to get it fully warmed. I'm no mechanic but that's how I understand it.

As for your second thing, yes, your filler cap probably needs a new o-ring. Mine does it, too, but I don't let it bother me. Next time I have to get something from the stealership I'll get one, too.

For reference, I'm approaching the big 5K on my '09 as well, something like 4800~ miles right now, I've had it five months.
