New Kawasakis from Costco

If you're in the market for a new Kaw and have a Costco membership...

I purchased my new KLX though the Costco Auto Program earlier this year and got a kick-ass deal.

The program basically picks up the cost of delivery & prep, etc. I saved over $1000 on my purchase and am getting 20% off parts & accessories from my dealer. You'll need that discount to get this bike set up properly.

However, If you are KLX savvy a used Kaw dual-sport is a better deal IMO. (Lot's of nice used KDX's in my market for $800-$1200.) I just picked up an 1980 KDX175 and an 1981 KX125 to build a nice hybrid DS (total $500). That 2-stroke motor will probably give my new KLX a run for its money.

Interesting. Can you count that toward the cash back program from being a member? That would be a nice fat check at the end of the year. LOL

They must have changed the program since I bought mine through it in Jan. Back then I was referred to a dealer at the pre-negotiated price. I then got a $250 gift card from Costco.

I ended up going to another dealer after having them beat the OTD Costco price and then submitted the rebate form for the gift card. I was skeptical it was going to work but it did.

Here's the retail quote. There's a lot of profit for the dealer of course.

$4999 -2012 KLX
599 - freight (I was told Costco pays this)
399 - prep "
55 - doc fee
=6052
469 - tax
170 - dmv
=6687

My total price: $5179 :)

The cash card was built into the deal. I did not ask for a price discount and left the profit on the table for the salesman.

I got 2 dealer referrals (give Costco a different zip code). The other guy's price wasn't even close (via phone call). Best to show up in person so they know you're serious.

$5179 before Tax & license, correct?

6052 - 399 = 5653
(Prep is total BS you shouldn't pay regardless....honest dealers don't charge this)

So you got $474 off of MSRP.

I tired to look up what I paid but the search isn't working. I think I paid $5,160 OTD plus the $250 Costco card.

Nope.

All dealers will charge prep - it's a legitimate cost that a dealer has a right to recoup.

I prefer to look at my bottom line rather than concern myself with individual line items. The dealership is a small business that deserves a fair profit on their sale. Call me crazy...

Nice color. If I could do this over I'd have picked up a red one instead. My first bike was a red Kaw 120 roadrunner.
