Hey all. picked up a 2009 250S for $1500. Needed some parts, clutch and brake lever, rear brake lever. Full oil change, new air filter, flushed the radiator. Runs and idles very smooth.
New front sprocket, rear sprocket and chain. Did my best to align the rear wheel without an alignment tool. Rear wheel started making a ’singing noise’ after a while. Bought a chain alignment tool and found I was off by a little. Now I have it as close as I can get.
My question, will the wheel ’settle’ in and stop making the noise or have I jacked it up and to replace?

 

Welcome. Not a lot of action, but a couple decades of information that applies to KLX250/300s. Search works pretty well. I've been here for around 15 years or so and have a 2009 as well.

I align rear wheels by measuring the distance from the swing arm pivot center to the rear axle center on each side, matching them up. That and run about 1/2" more slack in the chain. Better to be a bit loose than too tight. Singing could be an indication of the chain being too tight. Back it off and verify the measure match between right and left side swing arm pivot to axle measure.

 

Chain is perfect, slack is spot on. Tire is now aligned but I fear the previous discrepancy in the alignment may have messed the rear tire ip beyond help.
