new 2012 or 2014 KLX 250s which should I buy?

If you have the disposable income to swing a KTM690R, I'd do it. It's not too heavy, it has highway power out the wazoo, and has great torque. While it may not be "the" perfect motorcycle, it may come closer than any other motorcycle out there to being the "one" do-it-all bike. I love my KLX. With a fair amount of modding it has transformed into a very competent dual sport for some decently gnarly off road use while maintaining a truly reliable, bulletproof bike that can be ridden on the street with no issue...other than a lack of pleasureable highway speed. Still, with a lottery ticket win, my first purchase might well be a 690R. I got to ride one around down a short section of not-too-hard trail in Colorado awhile back that belonged to a fellow camper south of Telluride. Impressive. It felt like a dirt bike on the dirt and a sportbike on the pavement.

We'll I made a bike purchase this weekend and decided to go with the Kawasaki 250. Tried to buy a leftover 2012 but ended up getting a new 2014 for about $250 More. $4654 plus tax. Got to put about 20 miles on her yesterday and what a blast. I have to say I really like the bike and looking forward to getting it off road.

A pipe and a jet kit will take 2-3 hours of your time but that alone will improve your bike more than you would think possible. As much as a 15-17% gain in the best case situation.

Nope, they use 'Dual' on their website as well:
KTM Choose your KTM

"DUALSPORT (EXC & EXC-F)"

I did a search on the KTM website for duel sport - 0 hits. Search Dual Sport, and I get the above page and another one.

i Just picked up an 2012 250 xcf-w that has 249 mile on it and has the street legal kit and licensed for 5k looked up the specs it has 38.25 hp

So now my klx is going to get a new pair of shoes preferably 17" ones
