neutral indicator sender

Guys,
I have a 2014 KLX250.

There is a sender switch that indicates when the m/c is in neutral. This switch is just down and forward of the gear lever.
Last week i was doing some trail riding ( quite rough in places) When i stopped, I noticed that there was no neutral light.
I then checked and found that the sensor had been dislocated and there was a hole where the switch should have been leaving just the 14mm bolt in place but where the sensor had been there was a hole allowing the oil to pour out!!

had i not stopped, the engine would have run dry and seized.

Now here comes the lucky bit!!!>>>

I had removed the mirrors, by unscrewing the lefthand threaded arm of the rear view mirror, leaving the right hand threaded piece still attached to the clutch and brake levers.

This bolt fitted the neutral switch bolt>>> problem solved.

Rode back home, no problems, now waiting for a replacement neutral sender switch.

it seems to me that this is a bit of bad engineering and something to watch out for when riding off road

Philip
