Need help putting the carb back together!

My friend lent his 09 klx250 to his brother in law for a year and when he got it back it wouldnt run. So I took the carb apart to fing ethanol attacked it! There was yellowish greean stuff everywhere! So I took it all apart and put in in a chem dip for about 45 minutes and then dried and blew it out. Putting it back together I had a little issue. Didn't see where the needle "guide" goes. I put it back in through the the top. Is this right? The microfiche looks like it just goes on top of the main jet holder. Did I do it right?

Also, the bike doesnt take gas. It will idle fine but when I give it gas it bogs down and dies. If I put my hand over the snorkel it will rev up fine. So I'm not getting enough gas. I know the jets are clean but MAYBE some of the gunk made it back into the carb. I dont know but its fu#king frustrating!!!

The slide may not be moving up when you rev the engine. Take the inlet boot off and see if the slide rises when you open the throttle when running. If it doesn't there may be a problem with the rubber diaphragm. The plastic guide just keeps the needle from moving.

Thanks Fuller. Shouldve known to check youtube... So I did put the needle guid in wrong. But when I tried putting it in the correct way the main jet holder was showing two threads instead of sitting flush. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be needle interference, make sure it's free.

I suspect you have a different needle than the one in the video. Most KLX's have a four groove clip position needle like the needle in this image:

Other Keihin CVK carburetors use a needle like this:

If you have two clip grooves showing after you install the needle, the clip is set on the third groove, which most people find to be the "sweet spot" on that needle. You should be good to go.

Its not the needle I am talking about. When installing the main jet holder it will not sit flush with the needle guide in place. I tried flipping the needle guide over and its the same.

This is the needle jet holder

Beneath the needle jet holder / air tube is a collar / nipple.

Is it in upside down? That would prevent the needle jet holder from seating flush. The smaller end goes in first.

This deal with that needle collar came up in another post recently and gave the poster fits until he figured out that it was either in wrong or was missing...can't remember which.

• To install the needle jet [A], turn the carburetor upside
down, and drop the needle jet into place so that the larger
hole side [B] of the jet goes first.
