Default near disaster...

freeway commuting...stop and go traffic...felt a little difficult changing gears...more and more difficult...exit the freeway...i can't get it in neutral...i keep it in 1st at stops, but the bike is jerking forward...once stalls...still can't get it in neutral....in first and starting again and bike is jerking forward and still about to stall in 1st...i stop with brake, in 1st and give light throttle to prevent it from stalling...get home to check what is going on...and i find this...

hmm...glad i bought a complete clutch cable assembly from ebay for $10 in the past...have a spare, but never done this...hope it's easy since this clutch cable is from a 2010 klx250s....

Yikes. Glad you averted disaster. Is that the original cable? How many miles?

I'm gonna add that to my pre-flight checklist.

11,656 miles...yes, original clutch cable...but, riding san francisco traffic and freeway traffic..it's a lot of stop and go, so the clutch does get used frequently...

Thanks for the report and glad you are okay! Points out the reminder to check on the not so obvious that can catch any of us off guard.
If you can please advise on the cable replacement, etc.

Good question! I have had cables last over 100,000 Km with regular (annual) lubing...

I try to lube the KLX semi annually because it's in the dirt more often...

My KLR eats clutch cables, the cable end rips off like this. ITs a yearly maintenance thing for me, i just throw a new one on.
