Ne1 done it before...


My 2009 has had sticky cylinders since I bought it and winter has finally done her in....I was stuck trying to leave work.....I used a drill and screwdriver....No luck.....

Prior to that Ive tried everything.......De-icer....Oil....Nothing...Even different keys...So in another few days I figure I will tear the ignition lock out and drive to the dealer for a new complete set......But as of now....She wont turn on....

total bummer dude; water in the locks suck.... I had to give my tank lock a "blow" job once to get it open; almost got stuck with no gas to get home......fixed that with a after market tank!

 

Did you try wd-40? Thats what I use to free up tumblers.

 

If water in the locks was a bad thing, mine would have been ruined in the first week. I've washed my bike so many times it should look like the Titanic by now. I've never even lubed the locks. I think you got a bad one there man.

 

I think I shared this with you (or someone) recently but I'll put it in here anyways. Mine would NOT turn, the tumblers would NOT fall into place. I got so frustrated I did my best Randy Johnson impersonation with the key against the side of the house. All it ended up taking was spraying the key with WD-40, then running the key up and down in the cylinder (not turning it yet), then pulling it out, resoaking in WD-40, and running it up and down, then tried turning it, ON-OFF-LOCK-OFF-ON a few times. Did the same with the gas cap.

Funny thing is, my key would go in part of the way, but it wouldn't move the bottom tumblers. It would even spin the lock cylinder in the holder.

DO NOT spray the WD-40 directly into the lock. WD-40 has the capacity to eat some weaker plastics, and the way alot of the stuff on our bike is made, I wouldn't doubt there is some crappy paper-like plastics in the switch.

Key only goes half in......Blowin the tank lock cylinder....Yup

Anyways called the dealer....They said bring it in and they will see if the dealer will cover it....4-5 days then for the locks to come in...So probably 7-10 days of no bike...

Or $150 and the locks are in within 4 days...But I have to replace.....Screw it....Im going out of pocket to do them myself.......

are you in the locked position it may make it difficult to turn against the locking pin. and like cliffsta said using wd-40 or water displament 40 but i'd use somthing like oil on the key it will last alot long than wd-40. the briggs home standby generators have crappy plastic locks and a liitle oil on the key and it works beautifly.
