Default My 09 Farkle Thread

I picked up my 09 KLX250s in late October for a steal (Happy Birthday to me!)



It matches my buddy's XT200 that we picked up the day before.



I did some sewing to make my cheapo ATV logic tank bag fit the KLX250s. I had also fitted my GPS RAM Mount to the bars.



There was some moisture in the headlamp, so I took it out and dried it out.



Then I had to ride it a little



I added an offroad armor skidplate.



I tried to tap the stock bars, so I could add the tusk hand guards, broke the tap off, and messed it all up, so I ordered a set of Tusk bars.





The first low speed drop I had on the trails bent the Tusks up. Don't buy them it's throwing money away. I ordered the Pro Taper SE's, much better. In this picture you can see the cyclerack I just installed. It's definitely heavy duty.



The same day, my unabiker radiator guards came in, these things are tough.



I decided to mount up a top box that I had laying around. It's a Stahlin electrical enclosure. It's heavy duty and watertight. My dad's friend used to work at their factory and brought some of them home that were going to be tossed. He gave me a couple of them. I put some foam pipe insulation on the rack to protect the powder coating and just drilled some holes to fit a couple u-bolts on the outside lip of the box. It fits the rack perfectly.





My rotopax tank and mount came in, so I decided to mount them up on top of the stahlin box, it's like it was made for it.



My most recent farkle I just finished the other night. I had seen someone post up some super cheap hand warmers that can be had on ebay for 5.99/free shipping. I said what the heck. I hooked them up and they work. I installed the clutch side without a problem, but I wasn't able to get the throttle grip off. So I had to order some Protaper pillow tops to replace the stockers after I shaved the throttle grip off. The hand warmers are now installed and work. I really like the pro taper grips, too.

Now, I just spend a decent amount of coin in a very short amount of time (all X-mas money, I swear) on the cycle rack, rotopax, and radiator guards. I am in my garage yesterday and I hear psshh. My front tire deflated! The tube must be bad. I had just gotten back from a ride around town. My wife would kill me if I spent anymore money on it in the near future...so, I need to figure out a cheap bike stand. I will probably still need to buy a tube and while I'm at it, I'd like to put a rim lock on it.

Check/replace the valve core before you get too carried away.
Nicely equipped KLX.
But it's RED?

Kidding!
The best color. Good thought on checking the valve core. I am thinking that the valve stem may have gotten ripped since I aired down and the nut is tighted down to the wheel.

Nope. I did the soapy water trick. No bubbles coming from the valve stem, but from the hole where the valve stem comes through the wheel. I'm pretty sure the valve stem is torn. I don't think that can be patched. I guess I'll need a new tube.

I like it! Thanks for sharing the pics.

I got my bike about the same time and did some similar stuff. Regarding your luggage rack, does it replace the rear footpegs where it attaches (maybe a close up)? I was looking at it on ebay and like the design.

Funny, I found my front tire flat a few weeks ago. Filled it back up and tightened the valve stem a little and it has been fine since.

If you are going to do some distance riding on pavement I recommend the TCI windshield and 15 tooth front sprocket. It made my bike a comfortable 65-70mph cruiser. I find it is still geared low enough for off road (but I'm not ripping it up/racing other guys).

I still need to add a skidplate, larger fuel tank, and a tool tube to carry spare inner tubes.

The cycle rack mounts where the rear pegs are, you just unbolt the pegs/bolts, put the rack in place and reinstall the peg/bolt.

For longer distance road rides, I use my Ninja 250. Although, I don't really ride the expressway, so I don't mind the KLX250s at 55-60 mph.

I live in Mid-Michigan, I think that's a map of the Gladwin ORV trail system.

That nut is an installation aid. Once the tire is mounted and aired up it's best to run that nut up tight against the valve cap.

Yep. It can give you warning if the tube is slipping a bit, before the slippage rips it....assuming you look at it, that is!

Hell with the KLX, I want to know more about the '82 XT200 in the background. It looks brand new. That was my first dual sport. I bought it new in '84 for $1049. I miss that old bike. It was a big mess when I finally sold it. No blinkers, bent front rim and broken speedo from hitting a Black Lab, and the foot pegs needed to be welded back on. It was a great bike before that.

I understand that now. I bought the bike and it was that way. The rear tube nut is now nice and loose up by the cap.
