Default Modifying axle slot in swingarm

Hi everyone,
I would like to move my axle about 15 to 20 mm forward. Has anyone modified their axle slot to allow for moving the axle forward in a similar fashion? I want to tighten the wheelbase somewhat and as I grind the slot, I will be checking clearances for braking, chain/ chain guide, rear tire/ frame/plastic, etc.

Any advice or previous experience tips will certainly be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Just to tighten up the handling for some real tight trails I'll be riding with a lot of log crossings that will reguire a lot of wheelies to get over.

So, pull out the axle with the tire supported underneath and roll it forward an inch or two to see. Then verify if the blocks will move that far forward.
I'd tend to want to take off the swing arm and have the holes milled to do the work.

Thanks, I think after that I'll install the wheel , loosen up the rear shock rings, compress the suspension all the way to check for any interference during compression and rebound.

The KLX’s wheelbase is already rather short. Same as the last generation of KDX(I think their frame DNA is similar).
Gearing it down might be less hassle for wheelies over logs

It really wasn't too much trouble. I have some good carbide grinders and good experience with aircraft structures so aluminum modifications are easy. I was able to move the axle forward about 17mm which accomplished my goal. I also had to grind down the stiffening rib on the rear brake caliper mount so it would slide the extra distance forward. I pulled the shock to run the suspension through its range and all the clearances were ok.

yeah i always thought the wheel base looked pretty short in comparison to others. But to each their own. I don't ride off-road much either so it hasn't affected me at all. Hence probably why i haven't noticed any gains from a shorter wheelbase.

You can also raise the forks in the triple clamps. Won't help with wheelies but will make it turn better...
