Hi there!


I have a new KLX 250 2009. I live in Canada (so it is quite cold here!). I'm having problems with cold start.


Considering:

1. The bike is stock but maybe one day I'll buy a big bore kit
2. $$ for a new carb is not a problem

Wich carb is the best for me?

TM 33?
TM 36? that one is supposed to fit perfectly on the body
FCR 35?

Where are the best places to get one?

Do a search for "Bill Blue" on this site. I'm having trouble finding his website but, it's somewhere in this forum.

Before doing any major carb upgrades, I would do the "free mods" first. My ride was real hard starting when cold. Rejetting helped a whole lot because these bikes are very lean from the factory.

When your done riding, shut your gas off and run your carburetor dry. That fixed the cold starting for me.

 

I too live in Canada, Brought my 36-38 from www.motorcyclecarbs.com I just modified the turn wheel and used it has it was tuned out of box. Works great. I was to the point of pull off the air box and injecting fuel to get it to start. Now I just twist the throttle.

 

That did nothing to help me. The factory carbs just don't seem to work well in cold weather. I don't know if it's a vacuum thing or if it's fuel velocity related but, the fact of the matter for me was my motorcycle didn't start when was cold (~freezing) even with starting fluid on a battery charger.

 

It's a "too lean from the factory" thing. The free mods will cure that, the most important one for starting is the idle mixture screw. Mine was as good as bottomed out, now it's closer to 2 1/4 turns out.

Free mods are a start but don't think you need them to cure your problem. You WILL want to run the gas out when you turn it off, that is another issue. Do both.
