looking for older dual sport

One of the coolest features of the KE100 was that the seat had hinges and a key lock on it.

Meaning the seat would just flip open and you could access everything like the oil tank and the battery.

Sure would be nice to have this on the klx. Imagine not ever have to unbolt or try to slide the stupid seat back on .

My first big bike was a 78 KE100. It was a good bike. Went through alot and kept goin.

I still am in search of another KE250. hmmm, back to the 70's again for a toy that can and will perform. Suspension, brakes and frame were just that though, the 70's. (Some tuning required)

It's a 77 175 Qualifier, and it's really quite good in the woods.

02 KTM EXC plated not a loaner.

What he said. Had a '79 250XLS. Softly sprung, plenty of low end grunt and utterly dependable. Had it not been stolen in the late eighties I would probalbly still have in place of the KLX.

Well, maybe not. Liquid cooled, dual disks, six-speed tranny, monoshock and updated suspension geometry pretty much shows how far D/S bike have come in 30 years. Still, I put a lot of miles on the XLS and it was rock solid. E-start too, from what I remember I'll bet a bunch of em are still runnging.

I found that older dual sport I have been looking for. Its an 84 XL250R I was able to get for $500. I picked it up today. It needs a few things, fork seals, turn singals, throttle tube and grips. Maybe carbs cleaned.
I should have it all fixed up by spring.

Good find, those were nice bikes back in the day. Will make a fine loaner bike. Dont forget to check the valves.

Mine was a 79 KE100. Bright yellow, it was a great bike!
