Default KLX300 vs KLX351 vs TE610 ?

So I've got a good old KLX300 with a few light mods. Over the next year I've thought about getting a KLX250 and fully modding it out. Compared to my 300 I'd be gaining e-start, more weight and more power.
My question is, Would the 351 make enough added power to easily overcome the weight and give me more smiles per mile over my old, cheap, paid for 300?

Or, on a totally different note, would a te610 fit me better? A used one probably wouldn't cost any more than a used 250 fully modded into a 351.

Thoughts?
Thank you!

Thumbs up 610

the 610 weighs pretty close to the same as the KLX. It wasn't around when I got my green machine. Also around here the 250 is cheap to insure, the 610 is a couple of price ranges higher. If the $$ is a tie go 610.

Why not just fully mod out your current 300? Anything you can do to the 250, you can do to the 300 (including the 351 kit). The only downside would be the lack of e-start. The huge upside is the already paid for status. If the KLX300 currently meets your needs, I wouldn't switch to a 250S, especially if you're searching for 'more power'.

Now the TE610, etc, that's another story.

I came to this planet via the Husky route. I had looked at the KLX a year or so back, but budget constraints and riding time put the dream on hold. I was completely sold on the Husky TE line until I asked myself what I really wanted the bike to do and what is the cost of ownership for me? The TE's are sexy beast, to be sure, and their performance is better in every category than the KLX250S, even the 250. But I am not really up to speed with dirt riding since I've been off them for decades. I want a decent trail bike I can ride to just about anywhere from home and ride it during the winter months. List is $7500.00 for the Husky 250. The only dealer is 50 miles from here and they are struggling to keep the manufacturer on their floor. After that, there is nothing within a solid days drive if service is needed. Parts support is essential after the sale with these type of bikes. Kaw has a dealer in every county. Parts for the Kwack are plentiful, dealer support is great and their forum is active and lively, providing great support for the DIY aspects of ownership of a dual sport bike. Unless you live in California, where Husky dealers are numerous, the KLX is the best based on logic.

I was between the TE250/310, WR250R and another klx250s.....Now own a 2012 klx250s...The TE is 90% dirt machine, 10% street

One of the reasons I'd go with a KLX250 over my 300 is I'm 80% positive the tranny ratio's are different. So it would cruise down the road smoother than my 300.
Initially the 310 sounded good but from what I've read the tranny ratio is close. Whereas the 610 is suppose to be W I D E. That would be nice for a road rider. Plus its a light, thin bike so it would be nice for trail riding.
I'd have to ride one to see what I think about them.

I didn't like KLR's until I rode one. Tried a friends and it was just what I was looking for. Found a nice used one the next week.

one of the big reasons I bought my KLX was because I was reading everywhere from everyone "I used to have a KLX300; I have a great bike now- but I sure wish I still had that 300.....Bullet proof and fun"

Im a firm believer in havin ONE bike that does many jobs. The lil klx250s is the right bike. Street legal, great on the road and offroad, simple, ease of maintenance, parts/aftermarket support. Not sayin the 300 is a bad bike BUT its not street legal unless you somehow converted it. Puttin a 351 kit on the 250s will git you more power than the 300 AND the klx will be lighter.
