KLX300 stock exhaust - Better than the stocker?

Doesa KLX300 stock exhaust on our bike has a better sound than our stocker? Better power?

I just don't like the tiny hole of the stock KLX250 exhaust.

okay, here's the skinny on what I've read about the 300 exhaust- the 300 muffler is generally accepted as being just as good as a slip on for performance AFTER the buttplug is removed. it's the header that needs swapped out as it just does not flow enough air according to some 300 owners. read this articel and you'll be a little more educated about this.

Key phrase being "according to some 300 owners"

The KLX300 has more displacement, so it has to move more air, which makes the headpipe size much more of an issue. Also the KLX300 has a removeable 'butt plug.' So there really isn't any restriction issue in the silencer to begin with. That's why the lions' share ofKLX300 HPgains come from the headpipe. Ihope thatputsall the '300' issues incontext rather than comparing apples with oranges. The KLX250S is a much different story.

The KLX250S has a catalytic converter, which is severely restrictive.

For the KLX250S, ballpark gains are as follows.
Slip-on:More than a 2HP gain.
Head pipe: 1/2 to 1HP gain, depending on design.

To answer your question about whether the 300 exhaust sounds better, my oppinion is yes....even with the butt plug installed, I think it sounds much better than theasthmatic 250S. You will probably gain just over 2HP with the butt plug removed and, as I said, 1/2 to 1HP by getting a larger headpipe.

Good luck!

Yes, just expounding a bit. I wanted clarify where the biggest gains came from with both exhausts. The headpipe is the biggest issue on the KLX300 because their silencer is basicaly a non-issue whearasour silencer is a restrictive P.O.S.
