KLX250SF no digital display/won't start

I went to start my '09 KLX250SF the other day, I turned the key on and the digital display light up like normal. When I hit the starter button, I heard a "click" then the display went off and the bike would not start. I checked the fuses and they are all good. I pulled the battery and put it on the charger, it showed it was fully charged and the volt meter showed 13.1. Hooked it back up and still no display. Any ideas? It is the original battery and I've had no issues thus far.....
Anyone else ever experience this problem?

double check grounds and did you pull the fuses out to check them ? ive had blown ones that looked okay still in the holder.

Yes, I pulled the fuses out and checked them. I'll check the ground connections. It's the little "click" I heard that concerns me!

Sounds like a bad battery or connection. Check the battery with a volt meter while you try and start it. It's possible the battery fails under load.

just out of curiosity, is this a carbed or an EFI model?

It has a carb.

I would suspect that the battery is failing under load and isn't capable of providing sufficient voltage when you try to engage the starter motor. Five years is a long time for a motorcycle battery but I have had OE Yuasa's that have gone longer-my 06 gixxer is still running on the original.
