Default KLX250S Oil Filter?

Hi all, just picked up my first '06 KLX250 last night. First thing I wanted to do was change the oil and filter. It has a little over 1800 mi on her and the PO said the oil was changed last year about 1200mi. I checked the owners manual and surprise, no specs on an oil filter. Hmmm, I tried googleing and came up with all kinds of sugestions and then some people said "Ohh, no that one dosen't work", fortunetly I found this site and quickly joined. My nearest Kawi dealer is bout 45mi from the house soooooo, I'm looking for maybe something from "Advance Auto" or ? Besides the filter element would they maybe have "o" rings or whatever else I need just to change out the filter? I'm sure my answer lies somewhere in this forum but I don't have all day to try to find it. I'll eventually get to it as I read different posts daily. THANKS for any help. I LOVE THE BIKE, (po had the carb rejetted) runs great!!

I bought my filters at rockymountainatv.com $2.99 each, no "o-rings" needed. owners manual tells you how to change the oil.

Some guys were getting them from Wall-Mart Fram CH6015?. I use honda filters 15410-KFO-315 just cause the dealer is way closer than Kawi. Don't use car oil and stretch out the spring so it stays in the motor, you'll see.

Greenmonsta is correct. You can get your filter from Wally world it is a Fram Ch6015 and it comes with a new O-ring for the oil filter cover. I have bought the OEM filters and they don't come with an O-ring and it's nice to have one incase the old one is bad. Also I change the oil when the shifting gets bad which may be a little sooner than what the manual says but since the oil is shared with the tranny and the engine I feel it breaks down faster and it's only a little over a quart total. Have fun!!! You will love the KLX250S

Is that Fram # only for 06's or will it fit an 09 also?

The Fram is an RCH taller than OEM......crunched a little when you tighten the cover screws.......My guess it won't hurt but I now don't use FRAM on my 2009.

Thanks sooo much everyone!! Looks like Wally World's gonna do it with a Fram CH6015. Also, couple other questions while I'm waiting for my Clymers. What weight oil are most of you using. PO said there was 10W30 in it but I'm leaning towards 10W40 as both are recommended in the manual and I'm thinking the heavier wt might produce smoother shifting also. 2nd question, do you guys have a preference for certain idle rpm's? Mines @ 500 now but i'm thinking it should probably be up around 8 or 900, not sure though. Thanks.

According to the manual, your idle should be around 1200 RPMS.

Oil opinions are going to vary. I run either Rotella T or Mobil1. Don't use car motor oil. Either use a motorcycle oil OR a heavy-duty commercial oil. Regular oiils have bad additives that will make your clutch slip.

As for filters: Next time you order something online from RMATV or MCSuperstore, throw in a few K&N oil filters. My dealer is close, too, so in a pinch I can grab the Kawi part as well.

I use Rotella T 5w/40 synthetic in mine and it shifts and runs great. No clutch slippage. I also ride year round from 20 to over 100 degrees out side air temp.

Set idle at 1200rpm, a bit higher if you find you're stalling a lot off road.
