The KLX250s seems to be built for the very young folks, with the very small grips, and shifter.
The grips are the smallest I have ever seen on a full size bike.
Think .... Japanese

This is an old thread, but I just had to comment... Don't all bikes pretty much have standardized handlebar sizes? With the exception of Harley's and a few rare MX bikes, I'm pretty sure all bar ends are 7/8'. And most grips fit onto 7/8 bars, so the only difference between them could be the thickness of the rubber.

Speaking of footpegs, does it drive anyone else crazy that the right peg sticks WAY far out and the left one is tucked in tightly to the motor?
What the hell were they thinking? It's nowhere near symmetrical!

Lickily I have a welder friend and we are going to weld on some extra platform to the pegs... I've done it on my other bikes and it turned out great. I just wrap additional metal around the outside of the sharp teeth / u-shaped part. Add some gaps, grind the new metal to have some sharp teeth too, and voila! Bigger, better footpegs for basically nothing.
Yes, and I noticed that on my wife's 2006 XT 225 the two footpegs are not only not the same length, but are completely different pegs. Oh well if it works I guess that's all that counts. Hey I was wondering about the rear foot brake lever. On the wife's bike it has a folding spring tip on the end like our shifter, I wonder if there will be an after market lever so we can have this option as well. It really makes a difference when on the trails and sticks are trying to flip up and get you. Any thoughts?

Hey Norsseman-

I also recommend that you try what Okiswede81 said about rotating the lever up a notch. It's quick and works like a charm.

One of the first things I did was move the shift lever up one notch. Now it seems just right..[sm=smiley20.gif]

I always raise my shifter a couple of notches for my woods bike. It's easy to lift your foot to downshift but I hate having my foot pointing down under the shifter. Easy way to snag a toe on a stob or root and break a toe or ankle.

Those peg wideners can be made for dirt cheap...
You just need a welder and an angle grinder. Weld the little strap of metal around the outside of the peg, then grind the little pointy teeth into it... It did it on my old CR, but haven't done it yet to the KLX. I just haven't had my bike over at my buddy's welding shop yet .

Not only tight I could not get a socket onto it so I used a spanner and did round the bloody cheese headed bolt off [:@]

oh yeah I guess the KLX250R shifter might fit, I just haven't got 1 yet
