Default Klx250 2007

Hi,

I was wondering what can be done with the speedo, I am going to be putting on some 17" rims front and back for that super motard look, but want a the speedo to be calibrated correctly. Is there a gear that can be replaced in the speedo like the old GM tranny's or do i need to buy a after market speedo for this bike. Thanks in advance,

Dan

There is a thread around here somewhere, I thought Nobrakes did a report up about tearing into the speedo to calibrate it, because from factory most klx's, the speedo is about 10% off.

VOILA!!!
there you go
So there you have it, basically your speedo is probably already slightly reading faster than you are actually are going, when you put the 17's on, it is going to make that worse.
I THINK, with the calculations I did, when your speedo setup right now on your 21" rim reads 100, when you put the 17" on, it will read about 81.
Just so people can correct me if I am wrong. I did this
3.14 X 17 = 53.38 - is the circumrance of the RIM of the 17" wheel
3.14 X 21 = 65.94 - circumfrance of the 21" RIM
the difference is 23.5% less spins the 21" rim hasto make, compared to the 17" rim at the same speed. This is not including the tire, and I realize that, but using %'s I don't know if it would change a whole lot.
So
100 / 1.235 = 81

you could replace the stock cluster with a trail tech vapor.

Thanks green242 that I think will work. I may have to try it a few times to get it correct but is well worth it. Also thanks Deej for the welcome.

+1 on the Vapor, it can be changed back when you switch back to dirt wheels in a few button pushes.

100 % with the vapor, tach, speedo, temperature, and calibration to speedo is easy. I modified the way to install the sensor and tap my rotor for the magnet. I'd one again for sure.

I Looked and can only find one for the KLX300, is there a specific model for the KLX250?

Thanks again,

Dan
