klx 351 supporting mods

Hi all been reading through this forum for a long time lots of useful information on here.
I'm going to be get a bb 351 kit and wanted to know what supporting mods I should do ie clutch and what carb should I go with the pumper bb sells or something else?

The oe clutch worked for quite awhile with the 351 but I did update to an EBC kit. Lots of folks have had good results with the Mikuni TM36-68 carb-it fits with some minor mods to the cables. I have added a set of Webcam 101 cams and after that I am very satisfied with the power of the engine.

Do you have an aftermarket silencer?

From what Mr. Blue told me, stock header, stock cams, big bore, head work with larger valves, and tm36-68 makes about 35 horsepower.

What pipe?
Are you sure TM36-68? I thought B.B. preferred his modified 33 or 34.

So do the valves as well? I have a fmf q4 with stock header pipe is this worth changing? also running with the air box lid off

I first did the 34 pumper carb before the the 351 and it really improved throttle response. It ran perfect before the the big bore and after. I did rejet per bill blue. I don't have experience with the stock carb and big bore so I can't say, but I love being able to lift the front wheel when needed now! To me, money well spent is on the suspension. The extra power is awesome, but to me the stock suspension couldn't keep up with the ability to go faster. The bike with the big bore, 34 pumper carb, and upgraded suspension and exhaust is tons of fun! Hope that helps.

The pipe is actually the custom exhaust he sells, so stock header was a mistake on my part. He said you get more power with the tm36-68, but he was only getting 50 mpg, but he uses the tm34 because he gets 70mpg. He has a customer in Japan who races sumo with the d-tracker. Stock cams produce "faster lap times" versus the 55 grind. I have the email and have his permission to post it here if you have anymore questions

Hey Matt,

Just for the sake of questioning, because its good to do so, if the fuel is properly supplied why would the 36-68 yield more power than the 34?
