Default KLX 300 Bore kit installed!!

Well I'm sure many of you have seen this on the adv forum, but it looks like someone installed the 300 big bore kit. Do you think this would signifigantly shorten the life of the motor? Any comments welcome

Why would it? I many overbore situation I would agree. But in this case, you can almost consider 250cc on this motor a "underbore". 300cc just puts back to where it should be. You haven't changed the crankshaft or connecting rod. Only a larger piston and a slightly larger barrel. Basically you've converted it ot hte same motor that the KLX300. It you go to 360cc, now you might be looking at some reduction in motor life.

The only unknown for me is the counterbalancer. Although the additonal weight of the 300cc piston vs 250cc piston is pretty marginal. Carbon build-up might weigh more. It's a very small increast in diameter.

Correct motoguy, the 300 and 250 are the same engine albeit with some mods (e-start the most notable) the 250 is sleeved down and smaller piston installed

So all I would need to do is pull the sleeve and install the piston? I really think the 300cc option would be a great one but, I hesitant to do it for cost reasons and worried it would vibrate too much because the counter-balancer is too light weight.

You know, I wonder about how much of a problem this would really be since both the KLX300R and the KLX250S have the exact same balancer part number (13041-0001)...

Could that balancer be adjustable somehow? Do you have the diagram/cutaway of that part. I've never opened up thsi motor so I don;t know what it looks like.

Either way, the piston for the 300cc motor can't weigh a lot more than the 250cc one. I think it's only a 3mm difference in bore. Compared ot the weight of the connecting rod, wrist pin and the rest of the piston, that's not very significant.

All the parts diagrams (with part numbers) are available online at http://www.kawasaki.com

I didn't check the connecting rod part numbers but since the balancer is the same, I'm guessing that's not the cause of any increased vibration in an engine that's had the big bore kit added.

This would be a good question for the guys at FourStrokeWorks.

Soon [8D]

I'm chompin' at the bit, believe me. Seems the nationwide supply has been tapped a bit for some reason and Muzzy's having to make more

I talked to starcycle yesterday and they said earl next week. We'll see.

WHa?? Why is it taking so long for them to ship it too you? I just ordered one from them too, about 2 hours ago, hopefully it doesn't take that long for them to get it too me. So your saying muzzy is just not putting out enough units?
