Finger Mullet did the install once:

Here is another person that did the mod using FM's info:

Looks like a bit of work, but if you're handy...

The bigger Q is why did you get rid of a WR450 for a KLX!

So I've read your walkthru a few gazzilion times Finger Mullet... is it really just as easy as draining the motor, pulling off the clutch cover, and throwing in the gears and the ratchet? How much more is involved? Your walkthru is great but I'm still a nervous nelly about taking apart the motor..

lol...imagine how I felt 2+ years ago being the first to to post up a how to.

personally I think changing the valve shims requires more thought.....but ya basically drain her...remove covers and clutch....Use Lauren's technique for the clutch in the other thread I would but my way works.

The only tricky part or not really tricky, just not intutive, is putting tension in the kicker so it pops back up after you kick.....otherwise easy.

If you have a service manual, no worries....go for it and post results.

Edited Add: I am no mechanical expert on bikes by any stretch...I can change a water pump or alternator in my truck but thats about it, but with the manual it is really easy on the klx.....sayin.

The next step would be to remove the starter motor, etc... It would be worth it to shed weight depending on what the savings would be. My old school Suzuki SP125 (red DR) had no electric start and I didn't give a rip. Dirt bikes should be kick start only in my book.

My son's CRF150F has a battery and starter motor, etc... Just for the laziness of a push button start and it has been the biggest problem with that bike. I wish the KLX didn't have all the bullcrap electric start mumbo-jumbo. Let us know how the kick start kits work out for you guys and how much you had to pony up for the job.
Good luck.
