The K&N KA 1287 filter element does fit in my 09SF, but I had to modify the cover plate so it would fit past the hump in the back of the airbox. I just took the tin snips to the cover plate and cut off a little bit and smoothed it out with the dremel. I cut off more than I needed to, but I was just guessing. The cover plates fits perfect now.

huh, never thought about trimming it. But yeah, mine didn't fit 100% snug either because of the hump.

I just took some thick grease and put a bead on the bottom and top ends of the filter to make sure no dirt could squeeze by.

 

I couldn't even get that cover plate close to fitting. Adding that slip on was money well spent, really opened the bike up.

I think I'll get that KDX snorkle too. The gaping hole in the airbox bothers me.
