jetting help (yes.....another post)

I'll post pics tomorrow once I "deej" the entire bike and make it more presentable (sorry deej....had to :) ANYways, after all the mods I've done to it (full Muzzy, free mods, UNI filter, jetted, snorkle) the one I'm least sure about now is jetting. Looking at how everyone else did theirs up, I ordered all the stock parts instead of the DJ kit and set it up with a N1TC needle clipped 3rd from the top, 128 main, stock pilot and Kouba screw 2 and a bit turns out. It FEELS like it pulls right up to the top with maybe a bit of hesitation or flutter past 8000 but I seldom go past that and try to keep it around 6-8000. On deceleration I've noticed it kinda burbles and pops a bit if the compression braking is heavy enough and if I run my finger around the exhaust it's pretty sooty. Sometimes but not always, cruising it feels almost like it's surging but it's almost not noticable. I'm THINKING it might be good to drop the needle a clip and see if that changes anything but does it sound to you guys like it's running rich or lean? The soot makes me think too rich but I could be wrong....

Sounds a tad rich - of course elevation will also play a role in the right jetting. Have you tried riding it with the airbox lid off? Check the plug (try an Iridium plug) otherwise get ready to play the "Jetting Game".
