ims 12l tank

Well looks like 12l tank will be available.....if only enough interest on 17l tanks!!

To answer your question –yes. We are about a third of the way thru the process of making a tank for the KLX250S and estimate it will be ready the end of July/early August. That’s the good news but you probably will be disappointed to know that we are making a 3 gallon (12 L) tank that uses the stock radiator shrouds. That’s what the people who contacted us asked for. We do our best to make good business decisions with our investments in tooling to keep the company going. At this point we wouldn’t make a 17L tank unless we knew there was a really strong demand for one. It’s all about the numbers, a 17L wing tank mold would cost us $15,000 plus so we would have to sell quite a few to recoup the tooling cost before any profit. It would be great to make a tank for every customer’s needs but we can’t, sorry.

Will this fit the '09 and later SF model?

Yes.

That's the first indication of capacity I've seen. 7.7l (stock) to 12l - that sounds promising!

I beleive the Clark tank is 2.7 gallon. So the IMS tank at 12L/3.2 Gal is a big improvement. Also, I question how much fuel is actualy useable in the pre 09 IMS tanks, the wings of those tanks appear to be below carb level.

I would love a 17 litre tank!! Anyone want to split the cost?

punkenduro09 05-15-2011 04:41 AM

3.2 is perfict, im stoked. cant wait to get the shrouds back on my bike.

Thank you IMS!!!!!

The largest tank possible with stock shrouds and no mods to how it mounts is perfect. My ideal is 3.2 to 3.8 gallon. My guess is the 12l tank is as big as she gets before complicating the installation.

WILL THERE BE A PRE-ORDER DATE? (I anticipate a back order/ wait time from the initial rush to get the tank)

WHAT COLOR OPTIONS? (I assume clear, white, and/or black).

The day this tank is available, be sure to post it here since I will be buying one with a smile.

PS - My 2009 has an 80 mile safe range. I hit the 0.5 reserve right between 75-80 miles. Kills me. I went 103 miles and put 1.9 gallons in the 2 gallon stock tank.

So I barely get more than 50mpg. Not sure how people are getting 60mpg plus, unless they just putt around 2 gears too high and don't really ride their bike. I usually have mine constant at 8000 rpm around town and like to keep the front end light. Plus I do a lot of highway in top gear and full throttle to hold 70-74mph (82-85mph on the actual speedo which is way off from reality). The stock 2 gallon stock tank limits my riding. So that limits my pleasure since it makes me live in fear of running out of fuel in some areas I would love to ride. And out of fuel in the Sonoran Desert is not a good feeling.

So 3 gallons is 150 miles on a tank of gas. That is good. 180 miles is ideal though (3.6 gallon). 150 is still good. Can't wait to get this bad boy on the bike so I can do some of the rides I been hoping to do.

So is this tank being manufactured in Australia then? (I see you are from QLD)

I am happy with 12-13L tank to be honest. I'm not interested in anything bigger as I don't really use the bike as an Adventure bike per se. I just want to be able to make it through a week without having to refuel more than once (unless I'm riding over the weekend).
