How Many Snowmobilers?

Seems like a lot of DS or Dirt Bikers ride Sleds in the off season. Just curious, I ride a Yamaha Apex SE 2011:)

I sled, but I rent rather than own. I find snowmobiles expensive & time consuming to purchase & maintain for the amount I get out in a season. I also don't care for all the loading, unloading, and hauling. If I lived with direct access to trails, I might think differently though!

Nice machine there. I'm on an old '96 Polaris Ultra SKS piped and clutched. She's heavy, she rips, and it's time to upgrade!

Got an '96 Summit, and an '04 Trail RMK myself. Bought the Summit and trailer with the intent of dumping the Summit and keeping a (basically) FREE trailer. Turned out the Summit was a pretty decent sled, so I've kept it for the past two seasons. Did a LOT of riding 2010/11, not so much last winter (just 4 times). Picture is from 2010/11 season...
My take on the rental argument is if you're going to ride more than 5 times a season, you can buy a decent used sled for the same $$$ as one season's rental costs. But then again... I view wrenching as a kind of therapy. :p I have a friend in NY who snow checks a new sled every year, then sells it at the end of the season. So far it has worked out pretty well for him. He ends up getting a new sled to ride as many times as he wants, with a warranty, and it costs him about $1000-$1500 each year. |
Does the KLX count as a snowmobile? If so, count me in!

I ride a 2008 Skidoo GSX.
Doum - that's great. I didn't think the KLX had enough power to make that work. Where are you in Quebec? I'm your neighbor to the south in Maine. |
Yes I'm in Quebec. There's just enough power, but it's better with a big bore.

I have a 2000 Yamaha V max 500. It was bought new by a senior and kept in real nice shape until I bought it :)
