Hi,
they tried to steal my klx last night. Thankfully they didn't managed to break the lock but now I can't use my key.
Two questions.
1) should I go for the original one from cmnl or there are cheaper alternatives? Maybe they break easily?
2) how can I remove the old lock?(Still locked) Do I need to disassemble headlight, speedometer etc?
Typically you need to remove front fairing to access security bolts or rivets that hold the lock to the frame. Rivets will need to get drilled out and replaced with bolts for a new cylinder assembly.
I had purchased an 01 KLR that was missing keys. The key code was worn off on the cylinder so I bought a cheap eBay ignition. Installed it, turned out a couple wires were reversed in the harness so I had to fix that. Just an FYI for cheap ignition replacement...
I managed to change the lock, I removed the triple crown and I needed to slide down the rest of the fork because it was locked. I'm quite impressed how safe the lock system is!
Now I'm having issues on how I change the tank lock! Tried to disassemble the tank tap but dunno really how the lock can go out. Interestingly the old tank lock works with the new key but it's a bit old and sticky so I would like to change it
