homemade tall seat???

anyone done it? what did you use for the tall foam and where did you get a tall seat cover. I've searched the forum a bit and couldn't find anything.

Not exactly homemade but I used the guts racing tall seat foam and cover. Much more comfortable and looks better than the stock seat. It felt homemade by the time I pulled all the staples, and stretched and stapled the new cover. I'd almost rather sit on a 2x4 than do that again.

Honestly I don't think that a homemade tall seat would be worth it. I don't think that you would be able to use the stock seat cover over, so you would have to call guts for one of there covers. I think the foam was only like $50. You would probably have like $10-$20 in foam to raise the stock plus all the time to shape it.

I am running a Guts tall seat, and I can honestly say I feel like it was one of the best mods I did to the bike.

by "homemade" I meant getting some tall foam and a new seat cover as opposed to just buying an entirely new seat. Is they're tall foam and cover is universal? or do they have foam and covers for specific models?

Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes the foam and cover is bike specific. One of them is shared with the kdx(I think its the cover). The tall foam needs the tall cover. You need to use your old seat pan. The install is kinda a "pita" trying to stretch and staple cover so it isn't bunched, but its not too bad. I didn't want ruin the stock seat so I found a pretty beat seat on ebay for a 300r and just used the seat pan from it for the new Guts foam and cover. Dirtsurfer had a write up on his guts install somewhere on here.

Here's a pic of my bike with the tall seat. Guts also has a pretty good selection of cover options.

I bought this and it fit very well, just a pain to install. Rode for about an hour and a half saturday very comfortable. I went with the medium density foam.

I had not completed all of the trimming when I took that picture. Got excited and wanted to see what it looked like. Not much difference at all between the way it fits now as compared to stock. Just took some additional trimming and a couple more staples to get it right.
