Hint: Aussie 2010 KLX250S stage 1 mod

Hi guys.

So I've had my 2010 KLX250S a week now - brand new out of the box. I got the dealer to remove the snorkle from the airbox and fill in the carb sliders 2 holes from day 1, but I noticed the bike was running pretty lean. I had them take a look at it on Monday and asked them to maybe dial up the air/fuel mixture a little to help in the early stages of the rev range at least, but to be honest it almost felt like it was running leaner after that! :(

So anyway, one of the things the dealer mechanic said was that the hole left after removing the snorkle is a little too big for the stock jetting, so try covering about 2cm's (just under an inch) of the hole and see if that helps. I did that last night using some duct tape (is there anything it can't fix!?) and WOW! What a difference! She feels a lot smoother and more responsive from just that simple tweak.

Just note that the Aussie KLX250S comes stock with a #35 pilot jet, and a #132 main jet. I believe the US model comes stock with the same pilot jet, but a much leaner #118 main jet - so covering a bit more of that snorkle hole may be necessary. It's worth playing with anyway.

As soon as she's run in properly I will be looking to go stage 2 with a pipe and re-jetting though. It seems there is a LOT of untapped potential in this engine.
