HELP - Air/Hiss/PSSST sounds when starting bike

As per title, was getting a PSSSTT sound when trying to start the bike (more noticing on hill climbs) and could also hear air hiss while riding. It was making it difficult to start. When the bike was on flat and I tried to start it, it didn't make the HISS but instead was like the battery was about to die, with a slow turn over present before firing right up.
On the hills, it Sounded like when you have the spark on a bike with a plug out.... PSSSTT or when you kick an old bike with the manual decomp lever and get a loud HISSSS.
What should I be checking tomorrow exactly before taking it to a mechanic.
Was hoping to pick up on a basic issue like a loose spark plug or maybe a disconnected hose, but am mentally prepared for worse 😢
