I have a set of Acerbis full wrap handguards on my KLX and they are just about worthless. Nearly every time I drop my bike one of the handguards gets bent and I usually have to pull the handguard off and bend it back into shape so the the lever will relase. Does anyone know if any of the other brands are any better?

 

Barkbusters VPS are the original and best.

 

I'm with Westoz, Barkbusters.
But I went for EGO, (because its not a dirty word)

 

at the end of the day its just aluminum with a curve in it, and with 100+kg plus me (cause real men dont get go of the bike in a crash) you cant expect it to stay "true" after every crash...think of them a sacrificial protection for you hands and controls

but yes, barkbuster has been a good brand to me, but the local shop near me has some no-name ones for $75 and they are still on the bike after many drops on the dirt and on drop on the road at 50kph.

just try the barkbusters and see if they work for you

Acerbis Ralley Pro's have taken a beating on my ride. My KLX took a real hard fall and bent them past repair and I replaced them with the same exact brand and model.

If I fall hard enough to bend them beyond repair, paying $55 for the replacements is the least of my worries.

 

Okay, maybe Sid doesn't quite get it. I drop my bike every time I take it out. If I bought new handguards every time I would be beyond broke. I am kind of short, so can barely reach my tiptoes to the ground when it is flat. When I get hung up on a rock and there is nowhere to get a foot down, I just jump clear of the bike to avoid injury. I ride by myself most of the time so saving myself takes priority.

+1 on Barkbusters VPS - but I ordered the Acerbis Rally Pros for my KLX because my gf preferred the look (it's supposed to be her bike anyway lol).

 

If the bike doesn't fit you, it's gonna fall over a lot, and short of building a superstructure around it, you are going to damage stuff.

Change the bike so that it fit 'you'....

Acerbis works well for the several times I've dropped it....

 

moose had a nice set where you could replace teh plastic.
