Is this a good deal?
I'm looking at a 2008 KLX250s CA plated - 5k miles- regularly maintained - good condition - for $1500. From what ive read these bikes can go up to 50-90k with good care? Are they any less reliable then Team Red with proper maintenance? I will be riding 50/50 dirt and local streets. Thanks for any and all input.
Sounds like a good price if in good condition with that mileage. However, there is not a 2008 KLX. It's probably an '07. What's the manufacture date on the white sticker on the headtube?
Yes, these are very durable bikes. While ultimate routine mileage maximum is hard to qualify at this point, the engine is somewhat overbuilt and understressed.

I agree with TNC. Sounds like a good price if the bike does not show signs of serius abuse or the seller does not use the screen name BearDodge.
Also agree its not a 2008 but it may be a 2009. One of my 2009's has a born on date of 2008.
Heck if you dont want to buy it I may be interested. since its in california I could ship it here and sell it easy. Hopefully to a friend.
Cheers, Jim

I bought an 09 new and have had few issues. The cam chain tensioner is a weak link and alot of these bikes sound like pop corn poppers after about 2k miles, there is a recall out for the 09's atleast that says not to ride them until serviced or they could catch fire. Until you learn how to start tthem that can be difficult also. The only other bike I bought new that had more issues was a harley. Never had anything like this in 40 years as a honda owner.
I have an '07 that I bought new in October '07. The bike has been completely reliable. Never had problems starting, cam chain tensioner seems to work fine (ie. my bike doesn't sound like a popcorn popper). Only problem I've ever had was the steering head bearings came with too little grease, got notchy, and had to be replaced.

Wow, linkin...comparing our KLX with a Harley...that's just harsh!

I'm with you. I think I'll just go out and buy a Honda 250 DS model to replace my green Harley. Oh wait...Honda only makes a 70's technology, air-cooled 230...well, it does have an electric starter...LOL! In that same vein, has anyone seen that Honda 250 Tornado they market in some other parts of the world? They have an air-cooled model and a water-cooled model. I can't believe Honda has a water-cooled, DOHC, electric start DS 250, and then they market the ancient 230 here in the U.S. as their only DS bike in this size range.
