goin to a track
me and some friends found a private track owned by someone my friends dad knows and we're gonna try to go next weekend for my b-day. just wonderin if anyone else has took our bike to a track. i know the suspension won't be great but is there any advice anyone wants to give about ridin on a track, i've only been twice in my entire riding experience in 3 yrs.
but i think i can handle it! it oughta be fun

The suspension on the KLX250, in particular the front, is VERY WEAK in my humble opinion for track riding. I'd take jumps at a crawl and speed up a bit each time until you find that point that you bottom out....your front WILL bottom out, I did that in the sand pits...
Other then that, some basics include sitting up on your gas tank around the turns, squeezing the tank with you knees, extending forward your inside foot as you get just into and past the apex of the turn as your getting back on the throttle.
Oh, and if you hear someone behind you revving their engine, move to one side and HOLD THAT LINE while they pass...
Have a blast and take some PICS!!!!

Tyler, I got my first opprotunity to ride on a track last week and it was a blast. One thing that I found out is how quick you can get yourself into trouble. The track that I rode had a couple fairly steep jumps and that is where I kept screwing up. I had to carry enough speed to get up, but would go flying out of control whencoming offthe top. After scaring the crap out myself a couple times I slowed down, figured out my speeds and shift points, then gradually sped up from there. After about an hour of figuring everything out, I could fly around the track and maintain a fair amount of control. If your buddies are faster that you, it will be tough to hold back but ride within your skill level. Be patient and try not to break anything.
As far as the bike goes, I upgraded the fork and shock springs, and got the race sag dialed in before I went to the track. This made a huge difference and can't imagine riding it in stock form on a track. If you are around 150 lbs the stock suspension might be ok, if you get the sag set correctly. I'd also recommend taking off the mirrors and bring some extra gas and a set of tools.
Mainly have fun, get some pics, and let us knw how it goes.

well i didn't plan on goin all out mx and jumping everything but i might try a double depending on how big it is but no way a triple. and i'll jump the table top and mostly just cruise around so as long as i land on the downhills the suspension oughta be alright. i really don't wanna changethe suspensionall around for one day of riding on a track. my friends takin his 230 so i won't be the only trail bike there and the guy on the yz250f sucks so i'll be okay on the klx haha
