Getting the KLX250S off the ground
i live in an apartment, no garage. I want to change tires, service the chain, change oil etc. I need a way to get the bike off the ground in the parking lot and be stable enough for yanking the wheels off. What’s the standard method? I tried a foot levered lift stand, which didn’t seem up to lifting a 300lb bike, and felt wobbly as f when it was up there. Contemplating a used jack, but it would have to be tarp stored outside. Not ideal, but I *can* get the bike on my patio (concrete slab) so it is an option. Tips? Solutions? Thanks. Tom |
I just use a 5 gal bucket but I would suggest something like a hydraulic lift stand. I have seen them from $100 to $500. A $100 special will generally do double the weight of a Klx.

I use the harbor freight foot lever stand I can put rear, front, or both tires off the ground and if the stand is on level ground its pretty stable!

Foot lever stands work great. You do one wheel at a time there is little chance to have it fall over.

Got this advice from another forum "I tip the bike onto the kickstand and front tire then slide the stand part way under and tip the bike back onto it. Then I wiggle it around a bit until it’s centered. It was scary the first couple times but now is easy."
If that scissor jack is a bust, I'll get one of those basic dirt bike stands and try that technique. Yesterday I scrubbed two years of wax mixed with Georgia red clay off of the chain and swing arm by slow rolling the bike around the parking lot with a spray bottle of kerosene and a Grime Minister chain brush. That collapsible platform looks like the trick especially if you have a cordless power drill and a 3/8" drive you can chuck up in it to use a socket to raise it.

i bought one of these, but the KLX is so heavy i haven't figured out an easy way to get the bike on it.
