Front fork spring selection - Who? What? Where?
 

What is the deal with the aftermarket front fork springs? Do we use 42.7 or 43.0 or 43.2mm diameter springs? Do you order a long one and trim it to the right length or, do you take the standard length and cram it all in? Do I need to worry about replacing the fork oil?

Both sights are suggesting I need .44KG/mm rates and both seem to be about the same price. Is one better then the other or, am I missing another good company I should consult? Other then the large size nut on the top of the tube and removing the handle bars for access, do I need to worry about special tools to swap out the fork oil or something else?

I would give moto-pro a call. No need to change the fork oil and the springs just drop right in.

I know some are using the racetech springs but I thought I remembered hearing that there was a difference between the klx300 springs and the klx250s springs. Maybe the 300 springs were a bit shorter?

Moto-pro springs are specificaly for the 250s, Racetech's are for the 300.

+3 on moto-pro. the guy is good. i'm 205 lbs.with all my stuff on and went with the .44kg springs. the chart had me using the .42 springs but they didn't have any at that time. he told me that i could get away with the heavier springs with no problem and he was right. i'm actually going to go to a heavier oil soon so let us know how that part goes if you end up doing it.

I have the .44Kg/mm springs from Moto-Pro headed my way. They should be here ~Tuesday and I hope to install them on the weekend. The guy on the phone was very helpful and strongly recommended taking the forks off for the swap. If it stops the front end dive under hard braking, it will be worth the ~$150 it cost. While I haven't bottomed out off-road, the extra spring rate will come in handy as I keep riding more agressively.

There's no need to take the forks off if you have a motorcycle jack to raise and lower the bike. If you don't take them off just crack the two upper bolts before you take the big nut off of the top of the forks.
